It’s Finally Going Down!!!

Well the reason I haven’t posted in a long while has finally reared it’s head. We have been working VERY HARD to launch a new division of the company. We are now a nationwide dealer for the HughesNet Satellite Internet Systems. We have been working like crazy to not only move the store to get the room we needed to do this but to set the call center up, get a webpage designed and launched, and come up with the money for a national advertising campaign. We have done all that and now All Star Satellite lives!!!

Now the real work begins…

All We Hear Is Radio Gaa Gaa

Well it has been a while in the works but I am glad to announce that our new radio show “Help Desk Radio” will debut October 4th at 9:30am.  You can catch it on WDOE 1410am.

We also launched a webpage to coincide with the show.  You will be able to get show notes, articles, tips, and hopefully very shortly, a stream of the show or a podcast.

Hopefully we can make something happen on this front so that the show will get a chance to grow into something that will be self sustaining.

It will be a fun ride either way!

Another good reason to switch to Linux

Apparently 20 minutes is all it takes for a fresh and new install of Windows XP on the ‘Net to get infected with a virus. Pretty sad, isn’t it?

According to SANS ISC, that’s down from 40 minutes this time last year. The problem is that 20 minutes isn’t NEARLY long enough to download all the patches and updates for the holes that the virus’ are exploiting. Gotta love Micro$oft. Ranks right up there with Adobe…but don’t even get me stated with those guys….

Just as I start to like something….

No sooner do I start preaching the praises of the Mozilla suite of software then a security hack comes out. But, unlike the Evil Empire, a patch was issued almost immediately. The link is below and it is a really simple fix.

Firefox 0.9

Ok. Being on the political hiatus I guess I need to find somethig else to talk about. So, let’s start the browswer wars back up. After all the hubub that has gone down with the latest virus that infect yet another security flaw in Internet Explorer, let me introduce you to what I beleive is the best browser around. It is Mozilla Firefox 0.9. It is chock full of handy features like: built in pop up blocker, super fast engine, skins, easy import features, and best of all – tabbed browsing. If you haven’t used tabbed browsing yet you don’t know what you are missing. Instead of having umpteen hundred windows open (for those of us that look at many sites at once) you can have them as tabs in one window. This has made my life SO much easier. This browser is open source and it does not have all the security problems that IE does. Do yourself a favor…give it a try.
